Borealis Philanthropy is a social justice philanthropic intermediary working to resource grassroots movements for transformative change. In 2020, Borealis Philanthropy wanted to develop new governance structures and practices that (1) strengthen the Board, (2) operationalize its intent to “participatory with inclusivity,” and (3) support alignment between board and staff around a shared vision for Borealis’ success.
Through consultations and data analysis, Converge assessed the board structure, culture and processes, as well as the current board and committee structure for effectiveness and mission alignment. We made recommendations around an appropriate Board culture to help achieve values-aligned goals. We recommended new board and committee charters, including roles and responsibilities, compositions, size, etc. Converge also developed new processes and strategies for board member recruitment, selection, and on-boarding. We provided training to board members on new processes and expectations.
