Planned Parenthood, the leading source of reproductive health information, education and advocacy for more than 100 years, has appointed
Takema Robinson to join its Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast (PPGC) board. The appointment comes at a pivotal moment in history.

“I am excited to serve at this critical moment in history on the frontlines of the battle for reproductive justice in America,” said Robinson, Founder and CEO of Converge, a social justice organization whose mission is to help create a radically just new world in which Black communities thrive.

“Planned Parenthood acknowledges that Black people face greater obstacles to obtaining sexual and reproductive health services and, as a result, experience some of the highest rates of cervical cancer, unintended pregnancy, maternal mortality and sexually transmitted infections in the country.

Alongside the nationwide fight for racial justice, we have a perfect opportunity to create even greater access to essential, compassionate and lifesaving health care, organized around community.”

In this voluntary position, Robinson will work with other volunteers to lead the practice’s overall direction and implement new practices for PPGC’s main services including reproductive healthcare, preventative screenings and STD testing. More than one-third (39%) of Planned Parenthood
patients are people of color, with more than 541,000 patients who identify as Latino and nearly 395,000 patients who identify as Black.
