Racial and Inter-sectionality Context

So what is R.I.S.E. (Racial and Intersectional Equity) and how is it different from DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion)? Converge defines R.I.S.E. as analysis and approach to explicitly dismantle white supremacy through the intentional centering of equity and redistribution of power and resources. Given the entrenched nature of colonialism and white supremacy, equity must first focus on race and ethnicity as the primary drivers of lived experience, life outcomes, and ultimately disparities. R.I.S.E. also recognizes that other aspects of human identity (gender, sexuality, ability, etc.) also impact lived experiences and life outcomes and lead to disparities. The intersection of race with these identity characteristics exacerbates (for people of color) or buffer against (for white people) disparate outcomes.
